Bike with us

Edinburgh Bike Tours is run by an enthusiastic team with extensive experience in cycling and outdoor activities in Edinburgh and beyond.

Our cycle tours of the Edinburgh area have been designed from our own experiences of travelling through other parts of the world, and from years of riding our bikes through this amazing city.

We have planned the routes to allow you to see parts of the city and surroundings that would be hard to find without a bike. You will see some of our many parks and parts of Edinburgh's scenic coastline, castles, gardens, old and new.

Tour Prices
Tours are priced according to their duration, so longer tours are priced higher than
shorter tours. The tour price covers the use of a bike and a helmet and the services
of a guide but does not include entry fees for any attractions you visit or any
refreshments purchased during the tour.

Start and Finish Location
All tours start and finish at our depot in Leith. The booking information indicates the
start time for the tour, usually 10 am.

Age Suitability
Most of our tours include some road sections and so are only suitable for riders who
are confident and competent riding in traffic. Anyone not comfortable cycling on city
streets and families with children under 14 years of age are advised to choose the
Family Tour or the shortened version of the Coasting to Cramond Tour, both of
which are almost entirely offroad.

Tour Grading
Our tours are graded as Easy, Moderate or Challenging, depending on distance and
terrain.

  •  Easy grade tours are mostly flat with a maximum length of 16 miles.
  • Moderate grade tours are mostly flat but include some steep hills on road,
some of them sustained, with a maximum length of 13 miles.
  • Challenging grade tours are mostly flat but include some steep hills on road,
some of them sustained, and are over 20 miles in length.

A good level of cycling fitness is required to enjoy our Moderate and Challenging
grade tours. Of course, any hills that prove too steep can be walked!

Kathy

Kathy started up Edinburgh Bike Tours in 2013 as she had been on fabulous bike tours in other cities and thought Edinburgh should offer bike tours too.

"I love to get out of the office and explore on a bike and Edinburgh is a fantastic area for cycling and there is always something new to discover and experience"

Kathy lived for many years in Spain and South America and can guide in Spanish too if required.

Fionn

I have enjoyed cycling all over Scotland in the past few years and it's great to see people cycling more and driving less.

Cycling is one of the best ways to get around a city and working for EBT gives us the opportunity to show people some of the best routes available.

Kirsty

Kirsty worked in the travel industry before joining Edinburgh Bike Tours. She first discovered her passion for cycling after moving to Edinburgh in 2019.
Kirsty always used a bike as a means of commuting but it was only during the lockdown that she truly discovered what a great city Edinburgh is to cycle around. The many cycle paths and accessible cycle adventures in and around Edinburgh led her to become an avid explorer of this amazing city.
As well as working for Edinburgh Bike Tours, Kirsty is the manager of a local artisan bakery.

Our Bikes

bike-tours-edinburgh-660

Our bikes are all traditional manual bikes, propelled by leg power, not by battery power! To enjoy our tours fully you should be able to ride a manual bike for several hours and for the distance indicated in the tour information.

At Edinburgh Bike Tours we look after our bikes. We generally buy them from a great local supplier of everything to do with bikes. We have a mixture of Revolution Trailfinders and Streetfinders plus some Marins and Treks as well as a range of childrens' bikes.

We currently have 35 adults' bikes ranging in size from 14in - 22in frames. As a typical group size is 6- 8 people there are plenty of bikes to ensure everyone gets one to suit them.

Please let us know of any special requirements when you book and we will do out best to have the right bike for you ready and waiting.

Reviews: What people say about us

Brilliant few hours

We booked the city tour which took you through the city centre and out to Portobello. Apart from a couple of hills at the beginning the ride itself is relatively flat. There were only the two of us plus our guide, Andy, which was great. What a brilliant few hours we had with Andy! When…

Great ride around beautiful Edinburgh and to Portobello

Super friendly efficient service. Kathy was so helpful in arranging our booking. Our guide was just lovely, Sandrine, who was so knowledgeable and friendly made the experience really good. COVID-19 responsible and we couldn’t have asked for a better travel bike tour experience. Such a fab way to see the city and more! Thank you

Coast and Castles

When we last visited and took the city centre tour the coast and bridges tour was recommended. As expected, tours aren’t back to full operation so we contacted Kathy to see whether there was a possibility of running this and she kindly arranged our own tour. This is a beautiful ride along the coastline of…
